Many time repeat guests Ron Oswald, and Gary Fielding fished 2 days last week. In those 2 days they were able to jump 16 tarpon between 100 - 160 lbs. They brought 5 of those tarpon to the boat for release....Not bad for only 2 days of fishing! We get a little rain here and there, but obviously not deterring the catch! Come fishing now, it is just such a great fishing season....

Bill and Karissa Bell from Santa Rosa Beach, FL fished 2 days with us. They encountered some rain, but were able to jump and bring one nice 130 lb. tarpon to the boat for release. Oh by way, Karissa got the tarpon!! Bill will have to come back to top that!!! Deron Strickland of Freeport, FL and Luis Contreras of Guanacaste, CR fished the same 2 days as Bill and Karissa. They managed to jump 3 tarpon and brought 1 to the boat for release, this one also about 130 lbs. Still a little rain in the area, but drier days are in the future, and the best fall fishing time is about to begin. Don't let another year pass without fishing with us at Rio Colorado Lodge.

UPDATE, REVISION to report posted for week ending May 13, 2016. How could this have been missed?!?!? Tom/Johnny Friesen from Atwater, CA also brought to the boat a tarpon over 200 lbs. for release, and some of the other tarpon reported earlier were easily over 160 lbs. As mentioned in previous reports, the weather seems to be bringing the big tarpon in from the deeper waters, so you could be as fortunate as Johnny and hook into a big one. They are a blast to fight and watch jump out of the water trying to throw that hook. Hurry, Come NOW and give it a try!!

David and Beverly Magers of Deerfield Beach, Fl. enjoyed a nice 2 day visit, and the staff enjoyed hosting them. They were able to jump 4 tarpon between 50 to 150 lbs, and brought 3 of those to the boat for release. Also visiting this week were Thomas and Grant Jacobson of Pymuth MN. They watched tarpon roll around them but were only able to jump 2. The food was delicious as always, the staff happy to accomodate, and beautiful weather for the Holy Week.

Alan Cain and Brian Boyd from the great state of Texas had a productive fishing trip. They jumped 29 tarpon from about 70 to 110 lbs. 9 of those tarpon they brought to the boat for release. They also caught and released a barracude, plus 10 bulegills, 4 jacks, 1 machaca and 1 guavina. On a one day fishing trip, Sean and Michael Sr. and Michael Jr. Mikus from Costa Rica and Freeport, PA jumped 2 tarpon from 65 to 110 lbs. Young 9 year old Michael hooked and brought his 65lb. tarpon to the boat for release. Nothing more fun than a young man watching a large tarpon jump out of the water and being able to bring it to the boat. Well done!! The weather has been beautiful, warm summer fun days with the ocean being very coperative.

Well, it is called fishing for a reason. Temple Fey of Hattiesburg, MS visited for a much anticipated fishing trip, and had a slow experience at best. He did not see one tarpon. Phil Wiliams and Bryan Chunyk of Calgary Canada had much the same experience. They did not see or jump a tarpon. TWO DAYS after the guests from Canada left, we have guest Rainer & Kirstin Vierthier of Germany arrive, they jumped 61 tarpon between 90 to 150 lbs, and brought 14 of those tarpon to the boat for release. One day, they had hooked so many by 9:30AM, they came back to the Lodge to rest up and get ready for the afternoon fishing! The weather and meals of course were good, but when you don't catch fish it can be a disappointment. The fish are back!!

We had a number of guests, but not many tarpon taking the bait. Dennis Cataldo & Reed Reimer of New York, had zero luck with the tarpon. They did however, catch 1 jack and 1 snook. CW & Pat Houghton of Roanoke, VA also had no luck with the tarpon, they caught one red snapper. Dale & Conie Larson of Oldburg, KS hooked one tarpon but were not able to get it to the boat before it threw the hook. The weather is nice, warm and sunny. Tarpon will probably be hungry tomorrow!!

Fishing Report Week Ending Jan 31, 2016
We have a little lull in anglers, but now things are picking back up. Juan and Santiago Debernadi from Argentina visited for just one day, and in that day, they hooked 5 nice tarpon. At one point they experienced the thrill of a double hook up! The weather has been excellent.
